Bird of Paradise Strelitzia reginae
This is part of the Jamaican restaurant series. Barb has a friend, Becky, who owns the local Jamaican restaurant . He moved to a new location, in town. When she saw that his new walls were bare, she decided to decorate! Barb is usually a serious painter. With this series, she decided to take a much lighter hearted approach and to paint with abandon.
Barb got the idea for this painting when she went into the restaurant and saw a silk Bird of Paradise. She thought, I can do this. Now, these flowers do not grow here. The closest Barb has been to one is the flower store. That’s all right. The flower store has some very nice ones. So Barb got clear on what a Bird of Paradise looks like and came home and painted.
Unfortunately, the web and digital camera just do not do justice for this one. This one will have to move up in the queue for high res scanning and colour correction. Because Barb pulled out the all the stops on the colour on this one. This bold and beautiful painting just vibrates off of the canvas. The colours are electric and the over all feeling is amazing and powerful.
